About the RHRA

The Retirement Homes Regulatory Authority (RHRA) is Ontario’s independent, not‑for‑profit regulator responsible for administering the Retirement Homes Act, 2010 (the Act) in the public interest. Its mandate is to enhance the safety, well‑being, and protection of residents in the province’s licensed retirement homes by licensing and inspecting homes, overseeing compliance and enforcement, applying a risk‑based regulatory approach, maintaining a public register, educating operators, residents, and the public, and advising government on sector trends, emerging issues, and policy considerations.
