Internship/Master project: Coupling remote nanomechanical resonators through light waves
Time-modulated light fields can couple different mechanical vibration modes, effectively creating networks of nanomechanical resonators. Such ‘optical spring’ couplings can induce intriguing physical behavior, as they break spatio-temporal symmetries that normal mass-spring networks obey. In this project, you will seek to connect resonators in remote on-chip nanocavities, mediated by light in a waveguide. You will simulate optimal designs, fabricate nanodevices in the cleanroom, and study their optomechanical behavior in experiments. This remote optical coupling will unlock a scalable architecture to study the functional performance of programmable optomechanical networks.
