Org Setting and Reporting
The position is based in the Office of Staff Legal Assistance (OSLA), Office of Administration of Justice (OAJ) in Santiago, Chile. The Legal Officer reports to the Chief of OSLA and supports legal assistance to staff members within the United Nations internal justice system.
Responsibilities
- Provide legal assistance to persons within the scope defined by GA resolution 63/253.
- Advise clients on appeals against administrative decisions and disciplinary matters.
- Represent and litigate clients before the United Nations Dispute Tribunal and the United Nations Appeals Tribunal, preparing written and oral submissions that meet procedural requirements.
- Identify cases suitable for informal resolution, such as settlement or mediation, and assist clients through the process.
- Respond to complex inquiries and correspondence, identify legal issues, draft, review, and advise on legal documents.
