Summary:
The main function of a paralegal is to assist lawyers by researching legal precedent, investigating facts, or preparing legal documents. A typical paralegal is responsible for conducting research to support a legal proceeding, formulate a defense or to initiate legal action.
Job Responsibilities:
β’ Prepare correspondence and legal papers such as summonses, complaints, motions, responses, and subpoenas under the supervision of an attorney or a paralegal.
β’ Review legal journals and assist with legal research.
β’ May assist new lawyers how to prepare documents for submission to the courts.
β’ Assist attorneys in collecting information such as employment, medical, and other records.
β’ Attend legal meetings, such as client interviews, hearings, or depositions, and take notes.
β’ Organize and maintain law libraries, documents, and case files.
