Clinical Extern – Overview

Reporting to the Director of Care, the Clinical Extern supports the delivery of safe, ethical, and effective care while advocating for patient wellbeing. The role is supported by a supervising nurse (RN or RPN) and the Nursing Leadership Team. Clinical Externs work as Unregulated Care Providers (UCPs) in collaboration with the interdisciplinary healthcare team and under the supervision of a designated Regulated Health Professional (RHP).

Responsibilities

• Provide patient care in accordance with organizational policies, professional standards, and role limitations.
• Assist with activities of daily living: ambulation, toileting, bathing, feeding, comfort measures.
• Participate in patient assessments (BP, vitals, head-to-toe, pain, PPS, mental status exams, suicide risk assessments, physical health checks).
