Position Overview
Summary Gateway National Recreation Area, which consists of three main units, Sandy Hook, Jamaica Bay, and Staten Island, is the largest urban national park and one of the most visited in the National Park system. Gateway covers more than 40 square miles in New York City and New Jersey and includes an exterior park boundary of 60 miles that encloses 26,000 acres - including over 75 miles of shoreline/seawall/beach. Responsibilities The Superintendent manages the Park's infrastructure, employees, budget, natural and cultural resources, and visitor services. Responsibilities also include: Monitors and evaluates park operations for efficiency and effectiveness and sets long- and short-term goals and standards. Represents the National Park Service on larger efforts impacting the National Park Service's interests in the greater New York harbor and metropolitan area.
