Position Overview

About the role

We have a permanent vacancy for a Victim Adviser at the New Zealand Parole Board. Victim Advisers inform victims on the Victim Notification Register (VNR) about upcoming offender hearings and assist them to make submissions and participate in the parole process. They also call victims after hearings to let them know the Board's decision.

Day‑to‑day responsibilities

  • Contact victims before an upcoming hearing to inform them what to expect and how to participate.
  • Notify victims promptly of the outcome of a hearing.
  • Advise victims on local and national support services.
  • Use the Parole Board Hearing System to manage all victim interactions and track upcoming victim events.
  • Maintain networks with Department staff, government and non‑government agencies, community groups, and Court Victim Advisers.
  • Liaise with Managers, the NZPB Chairperson, and Panel Convenors to address issues and risks.
